Snorkeling Information

Many people love to have an easy, peaceful tour of Playa's beautiful reefs and not everyone finds scuba diving suits them. Our daily snorkeling tour visits our favorite shallow reef with a quick 10 minute boat ride north of our shop. It is the shallowest of a group of reefs that act to protect it from currents and waves. It has an average depth of 2m/6ft, easy conditions and is home to a profusion of typically Caribbean reef fish, coral formations and color. Even on those days when the sea is slightly rougher the inner part of this little gem remains perfectly safe for snorkelers of all ages and abilities.

Snorkelers should arrive at the shop by 12:15pm to be fitted with fins, mask and snorkel which are all included in the price. Guests board the boat from the beach down from our shop and leave for the reef at 12:30pm. The expertly skippered boat ride lasts approximately 10 minutes. The guided snorkel tour lasts from 45 minutes to one hour, but the boat is always nearby in case you tire early. The tour arrives back at the shop around 2:00pm.

Geofish also offers personalized snorkeling tours for groups of four or more. Tell us what you have in mind and we will go over the options, including the length of time, location, food & beverage arrangements and cost. Please remember that the whole day doesn't have to be spent with your head in the water. You could combine snorkeling with other activities such as fishing or visiting one of the less traveled magnificent beaches very near Playa.

Snorkeling tips:

  • Wear biodegradable sunscreen
  • Look, but don’t touch
  • Use spit as mask anti-fog
